Privacy Policy
Soundporch is a community-first music platform for independent artists and the people who love their music. We believe that the same respect we want to show artists, we should show our visitors and users. This page explains, honestly and in plain English, what personal data we collect, why we collect it, what we do with it, and the rights you have over it.
1. Who we are
In this policy, “Soundporch”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to the Soundporch project: the people building the platform you are visiting. You can reach us at any time at hello@soundporch.com. For the purposes of UK GDPR and the EU GDPR, Soundporch acts as the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. For visitors based in Australia, we handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles set out in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
2. The very short version
- We only collect personal data when you give it to us deliberately. For now, that means joining the beta waitlist.
- The only personal data the waitlist captures is your email address and a self-selected role (“listener” or “artist”).
- We use that data to email you when the beta opens, and for nothing else. No tracking pixels, no behavioural advertising, no third-party ad networks.
- You can ask us to delete your data at any time by emailing hello@soundporch.com. We will action it promptly, usually within seven days.
3. What personal data we collect
3.1 The waitlist form
When you submit the “Join the beta” form on this site, we collect:
- Your email address.
- Whether you identify as a “listener” or as an “artist”, so we can prioritise the right people during the closed beta.
- The approximate date and time you signed up, recorded by our email service provider.
We do not collect your name, IP address, location, browser fingerprint, or anything else through the waitlist form. We do not require you to create an account or set a password.
3.2 If you email us
If you email hello@soundporch.com we will of course receive your email address and whatever you choose to put in the message. We use this to reply to you and nothing else.
3.3 Server logs
Like most websites, our hosting provider keeps short-lived technical logs of requests to this site (such as IP address, requested URL, user-agent, and timestamp). These logs are used solely to operate the site, debug errors, and detect abuse. They are kept for no longer than 30 days and are not used to build profiles of visitors.
4. What we don’t do
Soundporch does not, on this landing site or in connection with the waitlist:
- Sell, rent, or share your personal data with third-party advertisers.
- Use your data to train large language models.
- Run behavioural advertising or retargeting pixels.
- Place advertising tracking cookies.
- Combine your data with data from data brokers.
5. Why we process your data, and on what basis
Under UK GDPR, every piece of personal data we process must have a lawful basis. Here are ours:
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)). When you submit the waitlist form, you are giving us your consent to email you about the Soundporch beta. You can withdraw that consent at any time, with no consequence to you.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)). Keeping short-lived server logs to operate the site and protect it from abuse is in our legitimate interest as the operator of the site, and does not override your privacy interests.
6. How long we keep your data
We keep your waitlist email address until either (a) you ask us to delete it, or (b) we close the waitlist after launch and migrate it to the operational platform. If you never sign up for an account on the platform itself, your waitlist record will be deleted within 90 days of public launch. Server logs are kept for no longer than 30 days.
7. Where your data goes
Soundporch uses third-party service providers (“processors”) to send the email you signed up to receive. As of the date of this policy, that means:
- Kit (formerly ConvertKit), Inc., our email service provider, which stores your email address, your listener/artist role, and the timestamp of your signup. Kit is based in the United States and offers Standard Contractual Clauses for personal data transferred from the UK and EEA.
- Our hosting provider, which serves this website. We will name the specific provider once we have finalised the deployment. Until then, no production user data is processed.
We will update this section before launch to name every processor we rely on, the data we share with them, and the country in which they store the data.
8. International transfers
If your personal data is transferred outside the UK, EEA, or Australia (for example, to our email service provider in the United States), we rely on safeguards approved by the respective data protection authorities. For UK and EEA transfers, that is the UK International Data Transfer Addendum and the EU Standard Contractual Clauses respectively. For Australian transfers, we take reasonable steps to ensure that overseas recipients handle your information in a way that is consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you have some or all of the following rights over your personal data. You can exercise any of them by emailing hello@soundporch.com:
- The right to access the personal data we hold about you.
- The right to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- The right to ask us to delete your data (the “right to be forgotten”).
- The right to restrict how we process your data.
- The right to data portability: receiving a copy of your data in a portable format.
- The right to withdraw your consent at any time.
- The right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
In the UK, the supervisory authority is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk). In the EEA, you can complain to the supervisory authority in your country of residence. In Australia, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au). We would much rather hear about it ourselves first, though, so please email us if something is wrong and give us a chance to fix it.
10. Cookies
This landing site does not currently set any cookies of its own, and does not use any third-party advertising or analytics cookies. If we add analytics in future, we will use a privacy-respecting tool that does not require a cookie banner, and we will update this policy before doing so.
11. Children
Soundporch is not intended for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have collected personal data from a child, please contact us at hello@soundporch.com and we will delete it immediately.
12. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy as Soundporch evolves. Material changes will be flagged at the top of the page, and we will update the “Last updated” date below the title. The current version is the one published at soundporch.com/privacy.
